Photography genius Herb Ritts loved shooting in black and white because of the contrast and mood each photo evoked. He challenged you to look deeper at the subject and his or her body. He often concentrated his work in the style of classical Greek sculpture, which emphasized the human shape.
This is the same simplicity that black and white fashion lends to the woman wearing the piece. It is less concentration on all the components and more focus on the lines and sophisticated manner in which the woman styled the piece to her shape. Thoughtful, elegant, and perfect, I liken black and white fashion to my idol, whose methods were described as a clean, minimal aesthetic.

Like a beautiful black and white photograph, it is all about simplicity with unforeseen complexity.

Back to basics seems to be the sentiment for the fashion world this coming Winter, and we are all about the black and white fashion trend. This trend has been illustrated not only in the fashion industry, but also in the beauty industry as well. We are seeing natural and clean faces across the cat walks and, here at LUXYMOM®, we are totally on board with this classic moment.

The fashion gurus have all forecasted that it will be a very structured 2021, and that includes color. Although we will see splashes of print and florals, most of the focus will be in the shape and cut of the piece, so the monochrome movement is in full force – with black and white leading the way as a classic staple. This means the focus is less on print and more on the silhouette.

Versatile black and white styles have been part of exclusive fashion houses since the dawn of couture and this trend is truly for everyone. When you think of grayscale/monochrome it is easy to lean right to boring and flat, but you are not thinking deep enough about the texture, silhouettes, and aesthetics of the pieces. Immaculate whites and contrasting blacks can be absolutely breathtaking on any person wearing the ensemble.

Why do we love this movement? It is daring, sophisticated, and it is tres chic. When you see a woman walking down the street and she has on a beautiful flowing white suit, YOU DO LOOK. You can’t help it. It takes confidence to wear one color when most are rocking florals and patterns. This look is clean and allows people to look at the woman and her lines.

For this shoot, we journey to the beach where we shoot in all black and white to illustrate the striking texture that can be found when you take away color. We present the same objective to you, LUXYMOM®. Look at the fabric. Look at the texture. Look at how the light penetrates the materials and silhouettes the model so you can appreciate how it fits her. Now, we present Inkwell – our photo essay celebrating us, we, she, the glorious female body, and all her elegance in vivid black and white.
