I’m always on the hunt for cute outfits I can wear from day to night. From work through dinner. And since I especially love wearing dresses, I always appreciate finding ones that will be appropriate for the office as well as date night or a night on the town with my girlfriends.
Today, I’m sharing some outfit inspiration from a super stylish Mom and Fashion-Grammer named Traci, of the Instagram account @tracizzworld. Her looks will help you transition seamlessly throughout your days when you have multiple obligations in your work and personal life.
When Traci and I first connected, I noticed that she styled the most gorgeous sheath dresses, and you’ll see that many of her daily outfits fall under this category. I’ve always been partial to a sheath dress, too, because it can hug the body while still looking very polished and put together.
A sheath dress – depending on the design details and styling – can be the perfect option for what to wear to work. If it’s sleeveless, you can generally throw a blazer or jacket on top for a professional look.
Because the sheath silhouettes are so simple, these styles often stand out because of their design details – whether it’s in the fabrication or placement of ruffles, pleats, zippers, and other elements.
On the same token, a sheath can also be the perfect outfit for a night on the town. The outfit above features such a gorgeous cold shoulder, and the lacework is incredibly intricate and feminine. This is a gorgeous dress for cocktails after work or for a special occasion.
But on the same token, if you throw a duster or blazer over this dress, it’s going to be a spectacular look for daytime at the office. With a jacket worn on top, you’d never guess that the shoulder detail would be so bold.
The fit and flare dress above is a departure from the sheath silhouette, but its sophisticated color-way and edgy hemline are still office and cocktail-hour friendly. It does double duty, especially when paired with classic pumps and a tote, as Traci styled the outfit above.
If you prefer a more casual look, the pumps could be substituted with a stylish sandal or pair of booties – but both could still be very appropriate for both day and night wear. This dress is particularly versatile in that you can pair it with a multitude of shoe, bag, and jewelry options.
I’m always looking to put together cute outfits like this that really can be worn so many ways, and I think this one is a winner.
White is wearable in all seasons. It’s versatile and classic. As with Traci’s looks above, this dress is beautiful as-is for running around after work – and perfect for the office with a simple jacket on top. The cut-out detail in back is a showstopper, along with the lace. All the elements work together to create a polished look.
When you’re searching for dresses you can wear both to work and to dinner, I recommend looking for styles with simple silhouettes, and those that can be easily layered with one or more types of jackets or sweaters. This will increase their versatility and help you get more use out of them. (Hello, Cost Per Wear!)
Above all, find pieces that are comfortable to you, true to your personal style, and which you know you’ll be able to wear over and over again.
