While the world around us feels somewhat broken – with chaos pushing us out of our comfort zones and taking away our control – it’s necessary to give ourselves time to unwind. I find myself in a place to pivot – to bring fashion and style to a place of inspiration and escapism – because I know that’s what so many of us are clinging to. Maybe you’re pivoting in some way, too. Know this: There will be better times ahead. But right here, right now, when many are out of work and many feel deep despair, I just want to use style to inspire you and make you feel happy. Even if just for a minute. Here are 5 ways to escape and be inspired by fashion in the face of chaos.
Be inspired While cocooning at home.
I adore playing with fashion. And just like when I was a little girl, finding new ways to style my existing clothes is still a fun little challenge. Plus, I always share how much I like creating a wardrobe that has value (meaning, I wear each piece many times).
So when the kids are in bed tonight, and you have a glass of wine in hand, head over to your own closet and try these five fun ways to play around with your style:
Learn how to style that scarf you found at the bottom of your closet
A scarf is such a fun way to add a little flair to even the plainest of outfits. See what you can do with the scarves in your own closet.
Re-create the upscale outfit ideas on this retailer’s blog with items you already own.
I love to get inspired by nicely styled looks. It’s so much fun to see if I can put together some similar outfits using pieces of clothing that are already in my closet. Try to recreate some of these looks on one of my favorite retailer’s blogs.
Build Your Own Capsule Wardrobe
Build your own capsule wardrobe based on one of my most-loved blog posts, which shows you how to create 288 outfit combinations with just 17 pieces of clothing. You can easily go down a rabbit hole with this one – it’s so much fun!
Get hashtag inspired
Pull up your Instagram – search for #styleinspo or another relevant hashtag – and try to re-create the first outfit that jumps out at you.
Make something old, brand-new
And my personal favorite – one which I do often: Grab one favorite piece of clothing – and try to pair it with three items you’ve never worn it with before. Get crazy! Enjoy your results. Have another glass of wine.
