Jewelry Designer Heather Matjasic pairs her pieces with today’s trends.
In the essence of sharing the LUXYMOM® take on bringing back all that is feminine after this recent high fashion hiatus, we’ve invited celebrated jewelry designer and business boss babe Heather Matjasic to talk about some of her favorite Fall fashion styles and trends – and she’s pairing them with pieces from her own jewelry collection, O.H.M. Jewelry.
After way too many months of living in athleisure and sweats (pandemic pounds, anyone?), I am ready to take all that defines feminine to another level. Be bold. Be feminine. Wear a dress.
This seems to also have been the theme for designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Simone Rocha, and of course our favorite ethical fast-fashion stores such as H&M and Zara.
In Full Bloom
I couldn’t be more excited about the bold floral prints that adorned the runway and social media stories of our favorite designers for Fall/Winter 2020. I celebrate these Fall florals and compliment them with my personal O.H.M. Jewelry favorite, Marquis Crown Jewels & Crown Jewels Bracelets.
These gorgeous art deco-y rhinestone crystal and brass pieces are sourced from Turkish craftsman, then designed and handmade into bracelets with ornate sterling silver chains.
For an additional bold, yet delicate, feminine touch, I definitely recommend the gorgeous Imperial Crown Headpieces. Yes, I said headpiece. These are so dainty and fun, you’ll definitely stand out in a crowd – in your own unique way. These pieces enhance your natural beauty with your favorite natural precious gemstones (think Pink Opal, Peruvian Opal, Lapis Lazula, Pearls, and many other faves)!
The center-pieces are 14 karat gold and sterling, hand-made in India – complete with a faceted quartz tear-drop pendant. Wear your hair sleek (and bold), or big (and bolder); but part it down the middle, add The Imperial Crown of your choice, and you’re set for a spectacular event.
Where do I start with Heritage Prints? So classic, so cool, absolutely everything I aspired to wear when I was a little girl watching my career-Mom getting ready for work. Things have shifted from the 80s, but maybe not that much. Think checkered, plaids and tweeds, skirts, dresses, double-breasted blazers and (yes!) shoulder pads!
Wear one heritage print top or bottom with jeans, slacks, skirts, shorts – or wear a full, going-all-out-plaid suit. All of it goes and all of it is so chic! Fendi is my fave so far, and ROTATE Birger Christensen is a close second. With these rich pieces, I’ve selected my Royal Ruby Necklace (rubies, garnet, sterling silver and pave crystals) and a collar length, faceted black obsidian necklace with a diamond and aquamarine lobster clasp. This diamond lobster clasp is large and in charge – adorn the diamonds on your collar bone or at the nape of your neck!
Rise to the Occasion
Let’s go higher, and higher, and higher, and longer. I’m petite, at 5’3”, and I am LOVING the Higher Rise (and wide leg, to the floor) hems this fall. Wear with a t-shirt, crisp white shirt or large lapel silk button-down blouse and blazer – or with that bodysuit you bought last year and haven’t worn enough.
Paired with delicate heels or lug-sole boots (more about these later) and of course some fabulous jewelry and you’re good to go. My favorite denim(s) right now are Hudson, YSL, and AGoldE. I like pairing them with my Princess Pearl Lariat (yes, you can wear it with a t-shirt & jeans).
“…Fit for a Queen,” Mr. Leonard Lauder, Chairman Emeritus of Estee Lauder Companies, shared my chunky Amazonite, Tibetan Turquoise & Coral Necklace (silver beads from Mykonos, Greece) & these banana leaf & diamond plant-based necklaces. I know, it’s a thing!
There are (only!) two banana-leaf diamond options – I personally recommend wearing these layered together. Please note, most of my O.H.M. Jewelry designs are one-of-a-kind, so if you see something you like, don’t wait – order it now!
Knit it in the Bud
All Knit-Wear Everything. From tea length dresses to cami/cardigan sweater sets to (Gucci) sweater vests (hello 80s again). The more of Grandma’s yarn you wear this season, the better. My go-to knitwear designer is Lacoste.
Founded in 1933, Lacoste, who created the polo – has brought us tennis-looks, golf-looks, and all around classic championed-looks for over a half-century. If there is anything this sporty powerhouse can do, it’s knits. Now, with newly-hired Creative Director, Louise Trotter, things have gotten (Croc)-Wild. The classics now have a creative, modern twist, and I’m all over it.
Want sporty AND sweet? Try Simone Rocha’s Oversized Faux Pearl-Embellished Cable-Knit Sweater or Loewe’s Embellished Scarf Sweater. In homage to Lacoste’s preppy tradition, I’m going to pair my Diamond O.H.M. Ring and Diamond O.H.M. Post Earrings from my O.H.M. Exclusive Collection with these designs. Date night? Wear a fitted knit dress like Altuzarra’s ribbed-knit midi with my black/white agate necklace with sterling silver pave crystal beads and sterling silver toggle clasp. The soft knits with this solid statement necklace is a for sure, a winner.
Not only my favorite ice-cream, but my favorite boot. The chunkier the Lug Sole Boot, the better. The great thing about chunky boots, is ALL shapes & sizes can pull them off.
WEAR. WITH. ANYTHING. Literally. Floral dresses, check. Higher-rise jeans, check. Suits & separates, check. Anything, Check. Check. Check. My 5’3” frame has been collecting these for years. I have them in sock boots, lace-up boots, ankle boots, over-the-knee boots, you name it. Most of the pairs I own are black – two in tan and one in shearling/tan. This year, I’d likely invest in a heritage print, like these from Tory Burch or another fun shearling pair. Of course, I select my most chunky statement necklaces to match. Try the African Recycled Glass, Chevron & Mali Bead Necklace, The Turquoise & Ghana Brass Necklace or The Black Obsidian Buddha Necklace.
The Longer Coat vibe is a ward-ROBE necessity. Whether you WFH and need to run to the store or are CDC guideline-traveling cities for work or the holidays, these ankle-dusting coats are a perfect cozy cover-up for both. I’m drooling over Fendi’s Gray Double-Sided Cashmere Coat, Max Mara’s Cashmere Coat in Camel and Stella McCartney’s Alexa Trench Coat from her Autumn Winter 2020 Collection. Whether it’s gold, emeralds, lapis or pearls, my collar necklaces and these longer coats are a marriage made in Heaven. P.S. Grab a belt.
All Leathered Up
Oooo-La-La, Leather! Leather is my greatest obsession. The short skirts, the A-line skirts, the ruffle skirts, the short shorts, the pants, the blazer! THE BLAZER! Of course the bag, the boots, and the shoes, too. Leather & chunky knits, leather & heritage prints, leather & denim, leather & longer coats – from the board room to evening cocktails or mocktails. Leather is EVERYTHING.
I am bananas for CHANEL, YSL’s leather looks in their F/W 2020, and I particularly love the tan leather suit at Zara. I will opt for my Silk Tassel Earrings (tassels handmade in India), my Crown Jewels Necklace (nod to Turkish craftsmen once again), my gold O.H.M. Wide Cuff Bracelet, & my Diamond Buddha Necklace for any leather look.
Did You Know? Nordstrom announced they will stop selling products containing fur or exotic animal skin by the end of 2021. What do you guys think about that?! I personally love our furry & slither-y friends, so am okay with it. In fact, I’m excited to see what designers come up with to ethically replace these classic faves.
THANK YOU fashion Gods and higher-fashion-powers-that-be for the Wide Leg Trouser MANIA this fall! Want to appear long and lean (fake it until you make it) or compliment your current #bossmom physique? Pull on these beauties. Wear a monochromatic power suit with heels, or cropped – with a silk scarf, blazer and ankle boots. Gucci unleashed this AMAZING GG Jacquard Flared-Wide Leg Trousers with a GG Single-Breasted Blazer. Tap Jacquemus for their super high-waisted navy pants, Le Pantalon Sauge.
Want to be comfy and chic? Grab a pair of silk pajama wide leg pants in a print with a matching print silk top and heels. Tory Burch has some great matching sets as well as (according to the #gram), Mama, Maker, Sustainable Designer & LVMH 2020 Prize Finalist from Cape Town, Sindiso Khumalo. Of course, CHANEL takes the Wide Leg win in our eyes. I’m going to go for the gold and grab my Canterbury Cross Necklaces, gold XL OHM or Filagree Flameball Pearl Earrings, my Marquis Crown Jewels Bracelets or for the plant-lovers out there, again, my Banana Leaf Diamond Necklaces. I mean, anything goes with these wide-leg wowzer trousers.
